December 16th

December 16, 1773 is an important date in the march toward American independence - it's the day of the "Boston Tea Party".  A bunch of citizens were upset enough about a tea tax to dump a bunch of the stuff into Boston harbor.  236 years later and some folks in Washington, DC are still battling the concept of "taxation without representation".

On this day in 1990 45-year-old Rod Stewart won one for the old guys when he married ridiculously hot swimsuit model Rachel Hunter, who was only 22 at the time.

On December 16, 1653 Oliver Cromwell was named Lord Protector of England.  If you live outside the UK and know what this means, good for you!

Today's Birthdays

Jane Austen, author of several books you've never read including "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sense and Sensibility", was born on this day in 1775.  You may, however, have been tricked into watching the 2005 movie version of "Pride" when you noticed that it starred the wonderful Keira Knightley.
