May 1st

May 1st is a day of incongruities - of dancing around maypoles and marching in communist military parades.  It's also the day the Empire State Building opened in 1931.  And the day Elvis Presley married Priscilla in 1967.  Long considered the "best movie ever made", Orson Welles unleashed "Citizen Kane" on the world this day in 1941.

Births and Deaths and Other Events

Two goddesses of the Playboy world, Playmate Carrie Stevens (Miss June 1997, born in 1969 in Buffalo, New York) and 2005 Playmate of the Year Tiffany Fallon (Miss December 2004, born in 1974 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida) came into the world on this day.

Actor Glenn Ford, who we remember as playing Earth-dad to the Christopher Reeves version of Superman, was born May 1, 1916.  If we were more cinema-literate, we would also know him from "Gilda" and "Blackboard Jungle".
